Interviewee: Kenefa Burris (preschool teacher)-Confirmed Interview

Interview Date: Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 5:00 pm via Zoom

Questions:

  1. Opener: What drew you to the field of teaching? Was there a specific experience from your younger years that ignited your passion for teaching?

  2. As an educator of little ones, I know a popular method for teaching preschoolers is the play way. If you incorporate this method into your teaching practice, would you elaborate on how you apply it within your classroom? If not, do you use particular teaching methods within your teaching practice?

  3. I know play is essential in children's lives, whether in or out of school. Please share your perspective on how play can be important to the growth of young pupils.

  4. Now, for a moment, I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you were a little girl back in school and were about to have a class with your favorite teacher. Now open your eyes, and would you share with me why that specific teacher was your favorite teacher and how that experience shaped you as an educator? 

  5. Can you recall when you faced a challenge as an educator, and how did you handle it?

  6. How do your past experiences as an educator form the decisions you make daily as an educator?

  7. What would you do if you were teaching a child with difficult behaviors that prevented you from teaching your class?

  8. I often hear about the phrase “teacher beastie,” where you have an educator you can confide in and just discuss your daily woes. Do you have one of those, and how has the relationship helped with your approach to teaching? 

  9. Has your approach to teaching changed over the years, and if so, how?

  10. What is your teaching philosophy, and how has it impacted your teaching?

  11. How do you find time for yourself while juggling the many hats of an educator?

1. Opener: When you were a child, what was the first art material you used, and what was that experience like? Do you remember what you created?

2. Do you see your eight yourself in your current creations? Do some of your past experiences from your adolescence form your current view on your body of work?

3. How have your past experiences shaped your current stance as an artist?

4. Have you faced any challenges as an artist that have affected your daily practice? How are you constant in your practice?

5. Why are your oil paintings primarily figurative?

6. What specific oil painting brings back fond memories of your childhood?

7. Is there a specific individual in your life that helped shape you into who you are today?

8. How has your body of work evolved over time?

9. How do you incorporate parts of your history into your body of work, and why is that important?

10. How do you manage it? You are a successful model and an artist, and you are recently engaged.
